Steve Killelea's Keynote Abstract
In this keynote address, Steve Killelea, IT entrepreneur and founder of the Institute for Economics and Peace, will discuss the results of innovative research aimed at calculating the economic impact of violence to the global economy, as well as the potential additional economic benefits that can flow from improvements in peace.
Where countries have experienced dramatic increases in violent conflict, is there a corresponding impact on their economies? Conversely, have countries that have achieved high levels of peace
reaped significant economic gains? How does violence affect business worldwide?
Through better understanding the economic impact caused by violence and which types of violence have the greatest effect on peace drivers, governments and policymakers as well as business leaders can determine what actions to take for strengthening peace, leading to economic growth and improvements in poverty levels, social mobility, education, the control of corruption and life expectancy.
