Host City
The Hunter, commonly known as the Hunter Region or Hunter Valley is located around a three hours’ drive North of Sydney CBD. The Wonnarua Nation were the first people of the Hunter Valley land and inhabited the area for at least 30,000 years. Today the Region is most well-known for its production of some of the world’s most popular wines. Not only is The Hunter Valley the oldest wine region in Australia, it boasts the highest number of cellar doors than any other region in Australia with over 150 wineries. The Region consists of many well-known cities such as Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, Maitland and Cessnock as well as the Upper Hunter Shire and the Hunter River.
The Hunter Valley is however known for a lot more than just it’s wine. From the Hunter Valley Golf and Country Club that consists of an 18-hole golf course, bushwalking through World Heritage bush land to visiting horse stud farms, day spas or even taking a hot air balloon ride, the Region has an activity for everyone.
You can rent a bike, motorcycle or car to visit the endless entertainment and dining options in the Region and always take the scenic route to admire the beautiful vineyards and Broken Back Range as you move from location to location.
The closest train stations to the Region include Maitland and Singleton. Trains leave Sydney via Newcastle. Alternatively, you can fly direct to Newcastle and catch public transport or hire a car from there.
